Managers of field teams are usually asking one of four questions, and a map with dots on it answers none of them well. Where is the team right now, so I can route the nearest person to an urgent job? Did the visits that were planned actually happen, and for how long? How much did this person genuinely travel, so I can settle a conveyance claim without an argument? And where did the day go for the rep whose numbers dropped last month? Answering those requires more than a GPS feed. It requires the location record to be joined to the attendance record, to the visit record, and to the customer — so that a point on a map becomes a visit of a known duration to a known account during a known shift. Why most field tracking produces data nobody trusts enough to act on
The map has holes and nobody can explain them
A trail that goes quiet for twenty minutes reads as an employee who switched off their phone. Usually it means the device was stationary, or the OS deferred a callback, or the points arrived late over a weak connection. Without that distinction, managers accuse people of things the data does not actually show.
Distance figures start arguments instead of ending them
Raw GPS overstates distance, because jitter while parked accumulates as movement. A conveyance claim computed from unfiltered points is high enough that finance disputes it and the rep feels cheated, which is the worst of both outcomes.
Visits are self-reported
A rep marks a customer visited from the car park, or from home that evening. Without location and duration attached at the moment of the visit, the CRM records intent rather than what happened.

The interval is set per employee, and points captured without connectivity are queued on the device and uploaded when the network returns — retaining the time they were captured, not the time they arrived.

Does the app track employees outside working hours?⌄
No. Location recording is bounded by the attendance session: it begins at punch-in and stops at punch-out, and the server rejects location data sent outside an open punch session rather than relying on the app to behave. Employees also grant consent through an explicit disclosure screen before background tracking starts at all. This is the single most common question from employees, and the honest answer is what makes the system adoptable.
What happens when a field employee has no mobile network?⌄
Points continue to be captured on the device and are queued locally, then uploaded when connectivity returns. Each point keeps the time it was captured rather than the time it was received, so a rep who spent two hours in an area with no coverage produces a complete trail once they are back in signal — not a two-hour hole.
How accurate is the distance figure for reimbursement?⌄
Distance is calculated with filtering for GPS accuracy and jitter rather than by naively adding the gap between every consecutive point, because raw GPS materially overstates travel when a device sits stationary. A delivery-oriented mode is available for routes captured at higher frequency. It is an estimate derived from the recorded trail and should be treated as a strong basis for a conveyance conversation rather than as a certified odometer reading.
The map shows a gap in the trail. Does that mean the employee turned tracking off?⌄
Usually not, and the system is built to tell the difference. A stationary employee whose device is still reporting is shown as a stop rather than as absent data. Genuine gaps are recorded separately with the most likely cause — device offline, location services disabled, app closed by the operating system — along with how confident that diagnosis is, so a manager is not left inferring intent from a blank space.
Does continuous tracking drain the battery?⌄
The tracking interval is configurable per employee, and the app reduces its own frequency automatically when the battery is low and when the device has been stationary. A longer interval materially extends battery life, so the right setting depends on whether you need route reconstruction for a delivery fleet or periodic confirmation for a service team.
How is this different from a plain GPS tracking app?⌄
A tracking app answers where a device is. This answers whether the visit happened, how long it took, which customer it was against, how far the person travelled, and whether they were on the clock — because the location record is joined to attendance, to the visit record and to the customer. The map is the least useful part of it.
