How to use this generator

Enter the annual CTC and the Basic percentage you want to structure on. The generator produces a document-style breakup — Basic, HRA, special allowance, employer PF and gratuity — with an employee name and designation you can fill in, ready to print or save as a PDF and share directly.

What the numbers mean

Gross salary is what shows on a payslip before employee-side deductions. Cost to Company adds the employer's PF contribution and gratuity provision on top of gross — money the employer spends but the employee never receives as cash. The take-home figure at the bottom subtracts only the employee's own PF contribution; income tax and Professional Tax depend on regime, state and declarations and are handled by the take-home salary calculator.

Frequently asked questions

What is a standard salary structure percentage split in India?

There is no single statutory split, but the common convention is Basic at 40-50% of CTC, HRA at 50% of Basic (metro) or 40% (non-metro), employer PF at 12% of Basic (or the ₹15,000 wage ceiling), a gratuity provision of about 4.81% of Basic, and the remainder as special allowance. This generator builds a structure using that convention, which you can adjust.

Does HRA depend on which city the employee works in?

Yes. HRA exemption (under the old tax regime) uses 50% of Basic for the four metro cities — Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai — and 40% of Basic everywhere else. This generator applies that automatically based on the city category you select.

Why is the in-hand salary lower than CTC ÷ 12?

CTC includes employer-side costs — employer PF and gratuity provision — that are never paid to the employee in cash. In-hand pay is gross salary minus the employee's own PF, ESI where applicable, Professional Tax and income tax, so it is always meaningfully lower than a simple CTC ÷ 12.

Can I download or print the generated structure?

Yes. The generated structure is formatted as a document you can print directly from your browser or save as a PDF, ready to share with an employee or attach to an offer letter.
